Mr. Meowgo vs. Lucky the chipmunk   5 comments

Our cat Mr. Meowgo is a hunter even as his food bowl sits full to the brim with tasty food.

He brings mice, voles, birds, lizards and sometimes cute little chipmunks to the front door for our approval.

A stone cold killer

I have tried unsuccessfully in the past to help the chipmunks escape his lethal grasp.

Today a chipmunk lives with minor injuries due to the quick action of my husband!

The photo below shows the only injury to poor Lucky.

Chicken Delight with Eggs   17 comments

In the past few weeks the hens have provided us with over two dozen eggs and counting. I have made egg salad and even pickled some eggs.

I had to take a picture of our first two eggs!

Great chicken friends

  our first two eggs

Pullet eggs are great for pickling. I am going to try lots of recipes and create a few of my own.

My sweet feathered friends

The ladies and Big Bird watch me pull weeds from the garden for their midday salad. Big Bird demands attention with his loud crow along with the fifteen hens clucking at me.

Henny Penny enjoying a bit of scratch feed

The ladies are so very loving and loud when announcing the arrival of the newest egg addition. I know I am to blame for spoiling them but I care not. They feed us, amuse us, are great alarm systems, provide organic fertilizers, etc.

So for more entertaining photos…    Little B-Tips curious about the camera

Mr Meowgo likes the egg a little too much

Our trusted feline friend is not entirely pleased with our new feathered family. He is very curious and does watch over them.

Two hens in the box and one on her way in

Although there are eight different laying boxes, the hens only lay in the one box that I painted the word egg on…can they read? Or maybe it’s the classical music playing on NPR?  As you can see, two Rhode Island Reds are already in the laying box and a line is forming.

Room for three?

Henny Penny must be in dire straits to crowd with two other hens in the same laying nest.  Three hens sharing  I came back to find three eggs a little later in the day!

Love birds

Big Bird making some noise

Big Bird loves his special treats of sunflower seeds and cooked brown  rice.   Big Bird is the sweetest rooster  He loves to eat from my hand.

Enjoy your day!

Joys of Living with Chickens   19 comments

Our chicken house(wing)

Building a 90%  up-cycled chicken house is simple and fun.

Another view of the chicken house

The Flock Grew We soon realized the five hens originally ordered turned into a 16 count!

We built an other wing for them to have the proper living space.

Peeps! @ day old chicks

Teaching the little chicks how to drink and eat was a breeze. We dipped their tiny beaks to the water and they drank with enthusiasm. Tapping my finger on top of their food was all it took for an eating session.

Eastern Box Turtle Busted: Enjoying a ripe tomato   35 comments

Turtles are on the top of my list of favorite reptiles. We have many turtles living all around our little spot called home and apparently they love tomatoes as much as I.

He does not look very pleased to have me taking his photo but I cannot help myself from capturing great pictures.

He hung around as I gathered the ripe or ripening tomatoes. He hissed a little when I picked him up for a photo. I returned him to dine on the best of the tomatoes in my garden.

Enjoy your day!

Ever Seen A Stick Bug?   14 comments

Well now I have!

While working on a clients deck remodel I discovered a neat friend to photograph. There are over 50 varieties of stick bugs.

I need the wheel barrow to transport materials. I grab the closest twig and she or he quickly latched to it only to fall on a piece of decking scrap.

I am happy to have met this neat fellow.

Enjoy your day!

’42’ : A movie in the making with Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman   5 comments

How exciting being privy to a movie shot set in the 1940’s in downtown Macon, GA!

The movie ’42’ starring Harrison Ford portraying Branch Rickey. The man who helped Jackie Robinson break not only sports history but help tear down racial barriers in America. The actor portraying Jackie Robinson is Chadwick Boseman.

I return the next afternoon to see if I could catch some of the filming. I get a thumbs up from one of the actors.

I am lucky enough to capture several photos of Chadwick Boseman portraying Jackie Robinson!

So I could no resist having a friend snap a pic of me with one of my favorite cars from the movie scenes filmed in downtown Macon, GA.

The movie ’42’ is set to open at the box offices next April.
